The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CCIS) joins the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in reaffirming that there is #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls—offline or online.
Digital technologies create opportunities for learning, innovation, participation, and leadership. However, for many women and girls, online spaces continue to be marked by harassment, abuse, intimidation, hate speech, and other forms of digital violence that undermine their rights, safety, and equal participation.
The 2025 campaign calls for collective action to end digital violence against women and girls, recognising that online abuse has real consequences for individuals, communities, and democratic participation.
Through its research, capacity-building initiatives, and partnerships, CCIS supports efforts to promote:
- digital safety and online resilience;
- media and digital literacy;
- awareness and reporting of online violence;
- rights-based digital policies and governance; and
- safe, inclusive, and equitable digital environments for all.
Creating a digital space where women and girls can participate freely and safely is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated action from institutions, civil society, the private sector, and communities.
There is no excuse for online abuse. There is no excuse for digital violence against women and girls.
