Evidence-based policymaking starts with trustworthy statistics

As Albania advances on its European integration path, the quality, transparency, and accessibility of official statistics become increasingly important. Reliable data are not merely a technical requirement under Chapter 18 – Statistics; they are the foundation for informed policymaking, public accountability, and better public services.

The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CCIS Albania) was pleased to actively participate in the latest meeting of the Discussion and Consultation Roundtable of the Partnership Platform for European Integration – Chapter 18: Statistics. This marks our third consecutive participation in this important consultation mechanism, reaffirming CCIS’s commitment as an active civil society organization contributing to Albania’s EU accession process.

During the discussions, CCIS shared its perspectives on strengthening the use of official statistics for evidence-based decision-making, improving dialogue between institutions and civil society, and promoting greater transparency in the production and use of statistical information. We highly appreciate INSTAT’s continued efforts to establish an open and meaningful consultation process, recognizing civil society as an important partner in advancing the reforms required under Chapter 18.

Our engagement builds on years of work promoting accessible, reliable, and policy-relevant statistics. As part of this commitment, CCIS has also developed a Policy Brief presenting recommendations on strengthening the statistical ecosystem and enhancing the use of official data in public policy. We are pleased to share it alongside this post.
