The EDUFAIR project was presented at the “Innovation for Development II” International Conference, organised by the Tirana College of Technology (TCT), bringing together academics, researchers, policymakers and industry experts from Albania, the Western Balkans and Europe to discuss emerging trends shaping technological and economic development.
The conference addressed key themes including artificial intelligence, renewable energy, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, information technology, and the implications of technological innovation for higher education and the labour market. Discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to foster innovation and prepare future professionals for a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Representing the EDUFAIR project, Dr. Diana Biba, Project Coordinator, presented the session “Piloting Ethical AI Implementation in Albanian and Kosovo Higher Education Institutions: The EDUFAIR Project Experience”, showcasing the project’s progress in supporting the responsible and ethical integration of artificial intelligence within higher education institutions in Albania and Kosovo.
The presentation highlighted several key achievements, including the development and adoption of institutional digital strategies and ethical AI guidelines across five pilot higher education institutions, the implementation of peer-learning activities between partner universities, and the delivery of specialised training programmes on the ethical and effective use of AI in teaching, learning, research and project management. These activities have promoted inclusive institutional dialogue involving academic staff, students, businesses, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
As a pilot initiative, EDUFAIR demonstrates the potential of collaborative approaches to advancing the digital transformation of higher education while ensuring that the adoption of artificial intelligence is guided by principles of ethics, transparency, inclusiveness and institutional responsibility. The project’s experience provides a valuable model that can be replicated across the Western Balkans and beyond.
