In any culture, collective memory conveyed through rituals, ceremonies, and similar events reinforces a link with the past of a kind that involves no explicit reflection on the distance that separates us from it.
We usually regard such reflection as becoming possible only with the emergence of historiography, a literary genre that aims among other things to record and preserve information about events worth remembering. But it is a political, social and pedagogical task at the border of historiography, society, and politics that underlines the danger of any politics of history, as historiography has always been used by totalitarian rulers.
The importance of cultivating such a culture of memory exceeds the values of knowing history, because society determines who we are and where we go.
Center for Comparative and International Studies and SCiDEV, as part of the project “Culture of Memory and the European future of Albanian youth”, supported by the Kongresi Rinor Kombëtar /National Youth Council and Tirana Municipality, as part of the Tirana European Capital 2022 program, are bringing young people together from Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo in a discussion on the communist past of these countries, the need to recognize history as the main axis for the European future of young people.
Three decades after the fall of the communist regime, the knowledge of the past and the approach to it, still constitutes an axis to build the present and the future in Albania, not only as a need to know history, but also as a rejection of the culture of impunity in the country. The disregard of the past, of human destinies, of different social groups, began immediately after the fall of the regime and still continues, causing the former nomenclature to still have an impact on society in various forms. Seen in this direction, there can be no reconciliation and peace without historical memory, so the project suggests deepening the work for the awareness of the new generation, opening a debate through the analysis of the causes and consequences of dictatorial regimes, and above all the discussion on European identity and the opening of a dialogue for the European future of Albanian youth.
We discussed today with our speakers Edon Qesari, Roland Lami , Nevila Sokoli Xhindi, Geron Kamberi, Holta Heba and Dorina Gjipali , and excellent young people the obstacles for the development of the culture, society and economy of Albania as well as the positive and peaceful development of the countries in the region is related to the confrontation with the past.
Young generations must know history, understand what happened in the past and learn from it, so that history does not repeat itself, and we move towards peace and development.

Projekti “Kultura e kujtesës dhe e ardhmja Europiane e të rinjve Shqiptarë” zbatohet nga Qendra per Studime të Krahasuara dhe Nderkombëtare” dhe Scidev në kuadër të programit Tirana European Youth Capital 2022 me mbështetjen financiare të Kongresi Rinor Kombëtar në bashkëpunim me Bashkinë Tiranë.
Në kuadër të projektit me temë “Kultura e Kujtesës dhe e Ardhmja Europiane e të Rinjve Shqiptarë” – KUERS, mbeshtetur nga KRK dhe Bashkia Tirane – TEYC, Qendra për Studime Krahasuese dhe Ndërkombëtare në datën 16 Qershor 2022, në qytetin e Durrësit organizoi një aktivitet lokal. Organizatore e këtij aktiviteti ishte Dr. Silvana Gashi në cilësinë e kordinatorit rajonal. Në takim morën pjesë 15 të rinj Durrsakë , studente të Universitetit “Aleksandër Moisiu”,Durrës. Ata i përkisnin Fakultetit të Biznesit, Juridik, Shkencave Politike.
Te ftuar për të referuar rreth kësaj teme ishin, Drejtor i Muzeut Kombetar, Dr.Dorian Koci, Prof. Nevila Xhindi- konsulente e projektit dhe znj. Malvina Xhabafti, pedagoge e re ne Universitetin e Tiranes.
Çfarë është më mirë për një vend si Shqipëria e cila është pjesë e Europes dhe ka përjetuar një nga diktaturat komuniste më të egra .
Të kujtojmë,,,,,,,,,apo të harrojmë të shkuarën ?
Duke u nisur nga kjo pyetje Dr.Dorian Koci bëri një përmbledhje të periudhës komuniste ku pothuajse të gjithë studentët nuk kishin të jetuar atë. Ai solli në vëmendje e ndaloi në fakte interesante, kyce, të cilat kishin dhe shumë dhimbje brenda. Kjo gjë nxiti diskutimin me tej mes studentëve dhe të ftuarve cilët u përfshinë në debat e diskutime. Sollën fakte nga jeta në diktaturë e prindërve, gjyshërve të tyre të dëgjuar dhe e shpjeguar nga ata vete .
U përmëndën gjatë referimit fjalë si “internim”, ‘”pushkatim”, “libra të ndaluar”, “modë e huaj”, etj.
Gjatë gjithë takimit të rinjtë kishin tendencë që diskutimin e tyre ta bënin në mënyrë krahasuese, të jetuarit në komunizëm, jeta post periudhës komuniste , të jetuarit në ditët e sotme duke nxjerrë “të mirat”, “të këqijat” e kohëve. Interes krahasimi në shumë aspekte I Shqipërise komuniste me vendet e tjera si motra të së njëjtës periudhë.
I gjithë qëllimi i këtij takimi ishte promovimi tek të rinjtë i kulturës së kujtesës në krijimin e identitetit tonë si individ, shoqëri,komb.
Në fund të këtij diskutimi i cili shkoi përtej kohës së përcaktuar të gjithë pjësmarrësit ranë dakort se ,brezat e rinj duhet të njohin historinë, të kuptojnë cfarë ndodhi në të shkuarën dhe të nxjerrin prej saj mësime.
Pse ???
Sepse njohja e së shkuarës dhe qasja ndaj saj, ende përbën një bosht për të ndërtuar të tashmen dhe të ardhmen në Shqipëri. Në mënyrë që historia mos të përsëritet, të ecim drejt paqes dhe zhvillimit, përkrah të gjithë vendeve të tjera Europiane.
Në fund ky takim u përmbyll me një koktejl ku pjesmarrësit vazhduan diskutime rreth temës. Duke shpresuar të gjithë në organizime të mëtejshme, takime të tjera në kuadër të këtij projekti, një foto si kujtim nga të gjithë.
The “We sign for jobs” project continues its implementation by CCIS and ANAD. Today, the two project partner organizations met with representatives of the Tirana Chamber of Commerce and Industry in order to create bridges of cooperation between the deaf community and businesses that are members of the CCIT.
The meeting was attended by CCIT representatives, Mrs. Albana Lakonri, Secretary General, Mr. Bashkim Sykja, advisor to the president of CCIT, Mrs. Aris Tasho, head of the project office, and Mr. Florjan Rojba, executive director of ANAD, together with Mrs. Nevila Xhindi, project advisor at CCIS.
Mrs. Xhindi made a presentation of the “We sign for Job” project supported by the Small Grants for Democracy Program of the U nited States Embassy in Tirana and implemented by CCIS and ANAD. Mr. Rojba made a presentation of the problems faced by the community of deaf people in Albania and especially focused on their employment. Today the deaf community is in great difficulty of finding employment, although the law makes it mandatory for businesses to employ people with disability.
Mr. Sykja stressed in his speech the importance of this meeting and the need to know ANAD and deaf community that the organization represents. Mr. Sykja promised that the members of the chamber will be informed about this meeting and will receive the necessary information for the community of deaf people in Albania.
The meeting was evaluated by the parties as very important not only to get to know each other, but to set up a new collaboration with concrete results.
About our 4 Workshop in Paris hosted by our partner Patrimoine Sans Frontières in the framework of our EU funded project You- WB “Youth involvement in constructive dialogue: Communist Past in Contemporary Western Balkan”, 1-3 April 2022.
All project partners participated in the workshop Scidev /Центар за управување со промени – ЦУП / Center for Change Management/ Peripli/MUA bringing together youth to engage in constructive discussion about identities in enlarged Europe
We heard from excellent speakers about the narratives of the national identity vis a vis the #European identity, collective memory and politics of architecture across the Balkans and EU and how youth can participate in the construction of narratives
We had the opportunity to explore hidden gems of Paris such as Bellevill and unpack history and narratives about the left, activism, public spaces, streetart, and youth participation
To our hosts and all participants in the #workshop and looking forward to the final YouWB conference in Tirana in May 2022
